                         The Home for the Orphans

     Home is where the heart lies. Home is where we want to return to no matter which corner of the world we are in. But for the children of Rahmat-e-Alam Islam Mission, home means a roof over the head, a guarantee of three meals a day and the security of a shelter and safety.
    Situated at Tejgaon area in Dhaka, Rahmat-e-Alam Islam Mission is said to be the largest orphanage in Bangladesh. Though funded by the charity of some generous people, the amount often falls far from enough. Life standard for the children here is below average.
    In the orphanage school, children are given religious education through the teachings of the Holy Quran along with studies that follow the National Curriculum.  They are also given the opportunity to study till graduation level.
Though this orphanage accommodates about 1250 orphans, the space and support is insufficient. Any orphan, below the age of 7, can be admitted in this orphanage.
    Here, 630 children out of 1250 don’t have any relatives. The rest belong to very poor families who can’t provide their children with basic needs. The children have made Rahmat-e-Alam Islam Mission their home, where they are each other’s brother, comrade and support.
    Sometimes a drop of tear, sometimes a dream and sometimes a twinkle of smile  in their eyes…life goes on for the children of Rahmat-e-Alam Islam Mission …each wiping the others tear…sharing the twinkle of smile and sometimes helping each other in weaving their dreams in this place they call home.
